The Bachelor of Innovation(BI) in Game Design and Development

What is the BI?

I will be responsible for creating things through games that will allow others to feel like they have made an impact and have the opportunity to make a difference with others. I will create something to give everyone a chance and an opportunity to prove themselves and grow as individuals. I want these experiences to act as a positive catalyst in people’s lives and serve as an opportunity to meet lifelong friends.

Throughout my college life, I have been learning and engaging in innovation. As a student of the Bachelor of Innovation, I went through classes that introduced me to various things in the process of innovation and entrepreneurship. In those classes, I learned the beginning steps of the creative process and how to transform my ideas into action. I also learned how to represent myself and present myself in a way that shows who I am.

After those introduction classes, I was taught things such as technical writing. This skill is important as it taught me how to represent my project or ideas in a way to promote them positively in the industry. In addition to technical writing, we also were taught ways to create proposals in the professional world. Finally, we were also taught how to create professional presentations and be able to get across our ideas in a way that communicates them thoroughly and professionally.

Finally, the most formative experience was the series of classes where the primary purpose was working with a team of students to create and fulfill a project for clients in the working world. Like an internship, I started as a team member working for a company to create an easy-to-fill-out form for low-income housing. While this first year didn’t end up having a lot of my contribution directly, I grew and learned a lot of things by working in a team, especially without much experience in the field beforehand.

My second team experience had me working on a prototype for a workout app for another company. This time with more experience under my belt, I learned how to work more efficiently with my team. The project suffered from over-scoping and the team had to pivot a couple of times from our lead. This pivoting ended up leading us to work on a user interface and user experience wireframe. While our client was not particularly happy with the pivot, I learned a lot about the wireframing process and working in a team that had to pivot.

My last experience in the teams’ classes has me working as the leader of a group. My client this time was a professor at the university who requested us to learn a language the universities website was operating in and update it to have stories we would have to collect from alumni about the innovation program and how it has helped them in the real world. As the team leader, I had to keep close contact with my team and the client to ensure that the work was being done, and I got a lot of experience working as a leader. I also primarily challenged myself by interviewing the alumni and using that interview to write creative and comprehensive stories.

From this program, I have gained a lot of experiences that I truly believe will help me get a head start in the future. Through these experiences I know that I will be a valuable member of any team I end up on and will be able to come up with unique ideas to tackle any problem presented to me. From these ideas, I will understand the steps I need to take to make them a reality and create an impact.
